Konkona Sen Sharma, one of India's finest actresses, will be seen as a mother in Meghna Gulzar's Talvar, which is a cinematic take on the Arushi Murder Case. According to Konkona:
"We did not get into a character study. Everyone just approached the characters according to the script. The hero of Talvar is the investigation. We just enacted the different situations."
It was the unique nature of her character in Talvar that made Konkona accept the film. She explained:
"My character in the film is not something everyone gets to enact. Depicting the same scene in different ways is something which drew my attention towards the film. I found the role very interesting as it is not generic."
She is very clear that the film is not solving a mystery. She stated:
"The film is not solving the case; it is just highlighting the facts and will take you through the investigation process. Through this film, you will see the huge class divide which exists within the system."
Recently, Bollywood has seen many content-oriented commercial films like PK, Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. However Konkona believes that those films worked because of their 'star presence'. She explained:
"Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK worked because the content was supported by big stars. Do you think it is possible to make good content without a star? I think it happens very rarely. I am of the opinion that if I have a brain, I should use it. I don't endorse the non-brainer kind of cinema.
It is nice to watch things which make you think. What's happening now is that people hardly take any risks. Everyone is stuck in a trap. For every 10 big films, there should be at least one small content-driven film which should be accepted."
The actress could not stop praising one of her many co-stars in Talvar, Irrfan Khan. She said:
"Irrfan Khan is a fantastic actor. His presence ensures that you deliver a superlative performance. We don't have many scenes together in Talvar as a majority of my scenes are with Neeraj Kabi."
