Kalank: Here's what Sanjay Dutt's wife Richa did when she came to know about his alleged affair with Madhuri Dixit
Bollywood is one such place where nothing remains hidden from the public. Be it love life, affairs or breakups everything comes in light through media and one such affair was that of Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.
As per reports their alleged relationship was at the peak when dtheir movie Saajan got released in the year 1991. It was during the time of the premiere of their film Saajan that they both came together and the crowd started cheering for them knowing very well about their affair. Sanjay who wore a suit and Madhuri who wore a blue-and-gold lehenga-choli came together on the stage at the Minerva theatre.
It was then that the big columns of many magazines featured their love angles despite of them denying their relationship everytime. It was also being rumored that Sanjay is going to divorce his wife Richa. It was during the time of the release of Subhash Ghai's Khalnayak that people and the press got so obsessed with the chemistry of both the actors.
They both were quite open about the feelings that had. In one of the interview, Madhuri said, “My favourite partner is Sanjay Dutt, he's a real joker...and his stories make me laugh all the time, but he is also a gentleman.” In another interview she said, “anju is a fantastic person. He has a loving heart and, in contrast to the widely held view, a good sense of humor. He is the only guy who makes me laugh all the time. He does not play games. He is open and uncomplicated.”
A lot of magazines such as Filmfare, did a story on their marriage. A story with a title 'Madhuri to Marry?' started doing rounds that talked about Madhuri Dixit's marriage in 1994, but with whom, it wasn't mentioned. In the same article, it was said that they both have grown close to each other during the shooting of Sahibaan (1993). The director of the film Ramesh Talwar said, “He [Sanjay] was always following Madhuri around and whispering "I love you", totally ignoring the fact that there were others around.”
Well, till now all these rumors had striked the ears of Sanjay Dutt's wife Richa, who was in New York. Her cancer was in better state now and she wanted to return back to India just to save her marriage. A lot of stories were also done that talked about how Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri's relationship will destroy them professionally.
The news about the affair was also discussed with Sunil Dutt by R.K. Nayyar during which he said, “When I met Sunil (Dutt), and we got talking about this affair, he told me that Sunjay does not remember Nargis's traumatic death...that entire thing is a total blank for Sanju because of his drug phase. Had he realised his mother's sufferings, he would not have let Richa go through this emotional trauma.”
Richa, after she was cancer free, came back to India along with Trishala but she was avoided by Sanjay. It was reported that he didn't even came to receive them at the airport but since Richa loves him a lot, she wants to hold on to him. When she was asked, why she was ask she said, “I did ask Sanjay if he was going to divorce me and he said absolutely not. As for me I don't want a divorce. I've come down because I want to be with him again.”
What happened next shattered her. She went back to New York. As per her family, she wanted to live a happy and a normal life with Sanjay and her daughter but this seemed unattainable. She, during an interview, said, “I love him with all my heart. Whatever happens, I will always stand by him. He treated me very shabbily when I came down to meet him.”
Richa's sister Ena Sharma said that Madhuri was so inhuman and could get any man she wants. She further said, “How can she go for a man who's behaved in such a way with his wife?...I know they are good friends because he's called her from our house. And he does talk to her brother and her sister here. But we never looked at it as if "okay the guy's involved with Madhuri.”
Later in the year 1993, Sanjay filed a divorce despite the fact that Richa wanted things to work out between the two. The tensions between the two families increased and she was furious to know where she went wrong. She said, I just fail to understand what he wants in life. A pretty chick who's skinny? I believe that's the reason why he fell for Madhuri...Sanju made a great boyfriend. As a husband, it was a different story.'
Well, this is how Richa's heart broke because of Sanjay and Madhuri's affair. The two are now coming back again for Karan Johar's project Kalank that will also have Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles.
