Legendary singer, Asha Bhosle or lovingly known as Ashaji turns 89 today, September 8. The veteran singer is evergreen in terms of her grace and her melodious voice.

One of the most respected playback singers started her singing career in the year 1943. Ashaji did playback singing for over a thousand Bollywood movies and has done playback singing for almost all the prominent actresses.


The melodious singer has been accorded with IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and also the National Award amongst others.

Not only that, the Guinness Book of World Records declared her the Most Recorded Artist in Music History, in the year 2011. In addition, she also received the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000.

On the occasion of her 89th birthday today, we take a look at some of her iconic Bollywood chartbusters.

Abhi Na Jaao Chhod Kar: This is one of the evergreen songs sung by Asha Bhosle along with Mohammad Rafi. This melodious and heartfelt songs is from the movie 'Hum Dono'. 

In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke: The iconic song is from the cult movie 'Umrao Jaan' (1981). For this melodious song, Bhosle won National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. 

Dum Maro Dum: This song is still everybody’s favourite. 'Dum Maro Dum' is from the movie 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' starring Zeenat Aman.

Aao Huzoor Tumko Sitaaron Mein: This is one of the most scintillating songs sung by Asha Bhosle. The song that topped the chartbusters is from the movie 'Kismat'. It was composed by prominent music director O.P. Nayyar.

Parde Mein Rehne Do: The song is from the movie 'Shikar' featuring Asha Parekh, Dharmendra, and Sanjeev Kumar. Sung by Ashaji, this song became a huge hit. The playback singer also bagged a Filmfare award for best Female Playback singer for this song.
