Tamil film Visaaranai has been selected to be premiered at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival, scheduled from 2 September to 15 September . Produced by Dhanush, it is the first film in Tamil to have its world premiere in the competition section at the festival.

Elated with the news, on Wednesday, 29 July, Dhanush tweeted:

Visaaranai shows the brutal methods of interrogation by the police and stars Anandhi, Samuthirakani, Dinesh, Murugadoss, Ajay Ghosh and Misha Ghoshal. Written by National Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran, the film has not yet been released in India.

Visaaranai is Dhanush's second film to receive international recognition. Earlier, the 2014 released Tamil comedy-drama, Kaaka Muttai had its world premiere at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival.
