A man allegedly conspired with his mother, brother-in-law and an occultist to kill his wife in Khaneta village, Madhya Pradesh, reportedly after she failed to bear him a boy child like he wanted.
The body of the victim, Mala Kirar was recovered from a well in Khaneta village three weeks ago. The accused have been identified as Lakhan Kirar, his mother, his brother-in-law Bhagchand, and an occultist Motiram Jatav, Additional Superintendent of Police Raghuwansh Singh said.
Lakhan and Mala were married in 2004. After the birth of their three girl children, Lakhan, who reportedly wanted a boy child, decided to remarry. Along with three accomplices, he plotted to kill Mala, Singh said.
Along with his mother and Bhagchand, Lakhan had convinced Mala to undergo a treatment from Jatav, which, they said, would help her bear a boy, Singh said.
The accused brought the victim to a well in Khaneta village, where Jatav and Bhagchand consumed liquor and strangled her to death. The duo then raped her and threw the body into the well, he said. Lakhan then filed a missing report with the Gwalior Police in an attempt to mislead the investigation.
Jatav was paid Rs 20,000 for the deed, Singh said. Jatav and Bhagchand have been arrested, while Lakhan and his mother are absconding. A case has been registered and further investigation is on in the matter.
