Instagram bug that gave users thousands of followers has been fixed

Over the weekend you might have noticed a sudden boom in your Instagram followers. Well, the joy is short-lived, as it was a result of a bug in the application. The bug is now fixed and all the followers are in the process of being taken back.

A sudden rise in follower count

The bug gave some of the biggest users over thousand followers all of a sudden. However, these were added by mistake and are now taken back.

Many users were concerned about the surge in the follower count and many of them were under the impression that their account has been hacked. Others relished the fact that they had become Instagram famous without even knowing about it.

The happiness could not last for long as the bug was fixed and the inflated numbers are now being removed.

Many disgruntled users took to Twitter to express the 'loss'.

Company statement

"We've identified a bug causing incorrect follower counts to appear on some profiles," a post on Instagram's Help Centre read. "We're working to fix it, and any counts that have been affected will be restored when we've resolved the issue."
