History repeats! US pro football players kneel during national anthem against oppression of blacks

On the opening day of the U.S. National Football League, Kansas City cornerback Marcus Peters raised a black-gloved fist during the national anthem. The protest amplified later on 11 September when four Miami Dolphins kneeled on the sideline with hands on their hearts as "The Star Spangled Banner", the national anthem of the United States of America played in Seattle.

The protests were inspired by San Francisco backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the first NFL player who kneeled during the anthem in preseason games to call attention to what he termed the oppression of blacks and other minorities.

JD(U) mulling action against MLA for mingling with RJD strongman Shahabuddin

Ruling JD(U) is mulling action against party MLA Giridhari Yadav for mingling with RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, who made caustic remarks against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar soon after his release from jail.

"The JD(U) leadership has taken note of our own MLA Girdhari Yadav being seen in the company of Shahabuddin at the time of the latter's release from jail," party spokesman Sanjay Kumar Singh said.

Muzaffarnagar: BJP MLA Kapil Dev Agarwal shot at by unidentified attackers

In what could stoke communal tension in Muzaffarnagar, BJP MLA Kapil Dev Agarwal was 11 September shot at by unidentified attackers and reportedly the attackers also threw chilli powder in the legislator's eyes before fleeing from the spot.

The BJP MLA was immediately rushed to a hospital and the reason behind the attack hasn't been ascertained yet.

The cops have launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.

Muzaffarnagar is a communally sensitive region and Kapil Dev Aggarwal is one of the accused in 2013 riots.

15-member Indian squad announced for India-New Zealand Test series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on 12 September, announced the 15-member Test team for India vs New Zealand series which is set to take place from 22 September to 12 October in India.

The team will be lead by captain Virat Kohli and the other players included in the squad are KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shikhar Dhawan, Amit Mishra, Umesh Yadav.

In the press conference post the selection meeting, Sandeep Patil, BCCI selection committee chief, said that the final call will be taken by captain Kohli and coach Anil Kumble.

Cauvery row: SC orders Karnataka to release less water; says people can't take law into their hands

The Supreme Court, on 12 September, asked the Karnataka government to release 12,000 cusecs Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu till 20 September.

The apex court also rejected Karnataka's plea to release 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day, be kept in suspension. SC expressed anger over "tone and tenor" of Karnataka's plea, saying law & order problem can't be a ground for not complying with its order.

Previously, Karnataka had asked Supreme Court to suspend its 5 September order of releasing water to Tamil Nadu. Supreme Court, in its new judgement, has also maintained that people can't take law into their hands.
