It's over. Donald Trump is the President-elect of the United States

Speaking for the first time as President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump said that it was time for America to "come together as one united people".

Trump thanked the crowd, which cheered him on with loud cheers of "USA, USA".

"I just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us... it is about us... and I congratulated her and her family on a very hard fought campaign. She fought very hard," Trump said.

"I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans. This is so important to me," he said. "Ours was not a campaign but a movement made up of million hardworking people who wanted a better life for themselves and their family... Working together, we will begin the urgent task of building our nation and renewing the American dream," he said.

He concluded his address with the words "The campaign is over. The work is just beginning... You are going to be so proud of your President".

1:40pm: Trump takes the stage

1:30pm: "This is a historic night," Mike Pence says at the Trump HQ, before Trump took the stage. "The people of America have spoken and have picked their new champion," he said, as he thanked them for the honour of picking him as the new Vice-President.

1:17pm: Trump prepares to address the crowd at the party headquarters in New York.

1:10pm: Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta tells the crowd waiting at the Democratic candidate's headquarters to go home. "They're still counting votes and every vote counts... several states are too close to call so we're not going to have anything more to say tonight," he said. "Everybody should head home, get some sleep. We'll have more to say tomorrow," he said.

1:03pm: It's OVER. America drops the mic on the world.

With 276 votes, here's the President-elect of the United States of America: Donald J Trump.

12:57pm: No comments from the Clinton campaign. You know what that means? Clinton isn't conceding yet.

12.08pm: This is it. The end is here. Donald J Trump wins Pennsylvania (20 votes). There is no coming back from this for Hillary. Six more votes to go for Trump to reach 270.

In the end, it probably mattered that Hillary Clinton wasn't born a man.

10:35am: Trump wins Iowa (6 votes). Americans try to move to Canada, crash immigration website.

10:26am: Trump wins Utah (6 votes). World loses hope in America.

8.00am: Clinton wins Connecticut, which has 7 electoral votes.

7:56am: Waiting for the inevitable implosion in case Florida hands it over to Trump.

7:49am: Florida is currently making everyone hyperventilate. What's happening down there, you guys?

Trump takes: Texas (38), Kansas (6), Wyoming (3), South Dakota (3), North Dakota (3), Mississippi (6), Arkansas (6)

Clinton takes: New York (29), Illinois (20)

7:13am: Clinton has won Rhode Island.

7:00am: Alabama goes to Trump. Trump has bagged 68.8% votes, while Clinton bagged 29.9% in Alabama, as per Politico reports.

6:53am: Tennessee goes to Trump.

6:43am: Trump bags South Carolina

6:40am: Florida re-elects Marco Rubio as Senator.

6:35am: Clinton wins Maryland, Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey, District of Columbia.

6:30am: Trump takes Oklahoma.

6:05am: Virginia, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina ad North Carolina too close to be called.

5:35am: Hillary Clinton wins Vermont which had 3 electoral votes up for grabs.

5:03am: Like in Kentucky, Trump is leading with a margin of over 10,000 votes in Indiana. The Republican presidential candidate has managed to bag 70% votes in the state, which has 11 electoral votes. While Clinton was the choice of 24.4% voters, 3.7% picked Gary Johnson - who also bagged a few votes in Kentucky. (Polling data from Politico)

4:58am: Polling station in Azusa, California are reportedly on lock down after reports of an active-shooter have emerged in the area, Reuters reported. Two persons have reportedly sustained injuries. However, whether the shooting has got anything to do with elections or not has not yet been ascertained.

4:50am: Results for polls in Indiana, Kentucky expected to be declared soon.

4:45am:Trump appears to be leading by a massive margin in Kentucky. The Republican candidate has garnered a whopping 74.1% votes to Hillary Clinton's 23.3%, as per figures by Politico.

4:30am: First polls to close soon.

4:00am: Voters complain of long queues and problems in the voting machine.

3:15: Women have been reportedly lining up to vote in large numbers with many donning pantsuits as a sign of supporting Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton. In fact, Sky News has claimed that more women have turned up to vote than men.

3:00am: Donald Trump says,"it's far from over"; asks Florida to go out and vote.

2:10am: Massive voter turn out reported in Florida, North Carolina and Georgia. Florida is a crucial state for both the presidential candidate saw a rise in voter turn out by 89% from the 2008 US elections. While, North Carolina saw 79% rise from 2012 elections and Georgia witnessed 144% rise from the last elections, CNN reported.

1:55pm: Meanwhile somewhere near the White House.

1:30am: In an interview with Fox News,Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed that there seems to be some problems with voting machines at several places which are apparently switching Republic votes to Democrats.

12:30am: Nevada refutes Donald Trump's allegations of skewing votes. The Nevada judges have also dismissedTrump's lawsuit request.

12:00am: Donald Trump campaign files lawsuit against the Clark County, Nevada, registrar of voters, for keeping polling places open beyond closing time.

11:45pm: Donald Trump's son Eric Trump breaks the law by illegally posting a picture of his ballot paper on his Twitter handle. He has however, deleted the tweet.

11:30pm: Billionaire and a ardent Clinton supporter, Warren Buffett is offering a free ride to those willing to go and vote. As a part of his "Drive to vote" campaign, Buffett is helping the voters in Omaha and Nebraska in a trolley he hired. He reportedly wants to have a highest voter turnout, irrespective of the party the people want to vote for.

11:00pm: President Obama asks America to go out on vote. Ahead of the first polls in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton addressed a crowd of over 40,000 people in Philadelphia along with outgoing President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and former President Bill Clinton.

10:00pm- Republican nominee Donald Trump casts his vote in New York. His Democrat rival Hillary Clinton also cast her ballot as the waiting game begins.

Promising to make America great "again", Trump also took to Twitter and urged people to go out and vote.

8:45pm- In a bid to embarrass Democrats, WikiLeaks have released 35th batch of hacked emails from top Clinton adviser John Podesta on the day of Election.

8:37pm - Early voting figures show increases across all demographic groups, with the Hispanic vote up by over 80% as compared to the last election, Financial Times reported.

8:31pm - An average early voting results tally by RealClearPolitics shows Clinton polling at about 2 points above Trump.

8:24pm - Long voting lines reported outside of most polling stations. Many take to Twitter to share photos.

Clinton casts her vote

Hillary Clinton casts her vote in New York while Donald Trump is scheduled to vote later in the day in Manhattan.

For company at her voting booth, Hillary had her husband former President Bill Clinton, outgoing President Barack Obama, the coolest FLOTUS in history, Michella Obama as well as singers Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi.

Donald Trump was on Fox News earlier today to talk about himself and that Nasty Woman running for POTUS against him. He was his usual incomprehensible self so make what you will of this.

Keeping up with the polls

Polls have now opened in 17 states and people have queued up to vote. States currently casting their votes: Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire.

As always, different polls = different results. As of now, here's the roll call:

  • Reuters says Hillary Clinton has a 90% chance of winning.
  • New York Times gives Trump a 42% chance while Hillary stands at 46% percent.
  • BBC has Clinton at 48% while Trumps trails behind at 44%

Every elections, there are the dreaded 'swing' states which leave candidates frothing at the mouth. Swing states are nothing but states who haven't decided who they like best. This year the swing states are Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and Iowa.

Midnight voting

Trump wins North Hampshire midnight vote

Trump won 32-25 in the three New Hampshire towns with midnight voting. According to USA Today, In Millsfield, Trump won 16-4, with one write-in for Bernie Sanders. In Hart's Location, Clinton took 17 votes over Trump's 14 in Hart's Location.

Clinton takes Dixville Notch

Dixville Notch - which traditionally votes first on the eve of Election day - has picked its choice of President. Hillary Clinton won four, followed by two for Donald Trump and one each for Gary Johnson and Mitt Romney.

Clinton, Trump make one last push at last rallies

Musicians Lady Gaga and Bon Jovi made a special appearance at Clinton's last rally before the polls in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Madonna also held a surprise concert at Washington Square Park, where she performed a number of her hits, while urging voters to pick Hillary Clinton as the next President.

"This is a concert that is about unifying us, and it's about keeping America great, not making America great again... We're going to keep America great. We're going to elect a president that does not discriminate," CBSNews quoted her as saying at the event.

Meanwhile, speaking at his final rally in Michigan, Trump slammed Clinton's celebrity supporters. "We don't need Jay Z or Beyonce. We don't need Jon Bon Jovi. We don't need Lady Gaga," he said. "It's demeaning to the political process", he added.
