He tried to mug Serena Williams, found out she's a superhero the hard way

Twenty one-times grand slam winner, successful fashionista, and all round champion of awesomeness, Serena Williams is a superhero with a flying red cape to boot.

Last night, Serena shared the story of how she almost got mugged and the story is nothing if not spectacular. Not only does it make you feel a bit awed at how incredible this woman is, it makes you wonder at the depth of human stupidity as well. Because what sort of an idiot tries to steal from Serena? Have you not seen her swing a racquet, kind sir?

Long story short, Serena was out for dinner with a friend when a fool of a man sidled up to her table, nicked her phone, and made off with it. What he didn't know was that Serena had been watching him the whole time.

We've never seen her give up without a fight, and she wasn't about to start now. Cool cat Serena got up and chased. the. man. down. He ran, but really he did not not have a hope in seven hells. Or heaven. Or purgatory.

She caught him and got her phone back but it is her conversation with him that's remarkable. She may have chased him down a street to get her phone back, but she didn't call him a thief. She gave him a chance to get out of the situation with a teeny bit of grace.

In her Facebook post, that has over 9k shares and counting, Serena signs off with a message to women: "Just because you are a lady don't be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero! "
