These 10 Olympians can double India's tally at Rio 2016

After four years of waiting, the 2016 Rio Olympics are upon us. Taking place from 5-21 August, these games feature 28 sports, 42 disciplines and a whopping 306 medal events. Golf and Rugby Sevens are being included for the first time in the Summer Olympic Games.

The Indian contingent at Rio is confident. The 122 athletes taking part in 64 different events is the highest ever for India and there is hope hope that the medal tally will at least double from the six medals won four years ago in London.

This time, we have our first ever female gymnast taking part, Dipa Karmakar - who landed the Produnova vault in qualifying, Sania Mirza - the world's top ranked tennis doubles player and a men's relay team that posted the second best time in the world in 2016. Even our hockey team is all fired up. Inderjeet Singh and Dharambir Singh may have been banned from the Games in the last few days, but that hasn't changed the mood in the camp. Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes may be feuding, but again morale is high.

While there is hope that everyone participating from the Indian contingent puts up their best show and wins a medal, going by history, we know that won't happen. But, our athletes performing in Rio definitely have it in them to better the country's tally at the London Olympics in 2012.
