Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay's Diwali release Mersal is slated to hit the screens on 18 October. Directed by Atlee and produced by Thenandal Films, the film marks the second collaboration of the Vijay-Atlee duo after their 2016 blockbuster Theri. Mersal is also the 100th venture of Thenandal Films.

While Mersal is a few hours away from its grand theatrical release, here are 6 reasons why this Thalapathy Vijay-Atlee film could be another blockbuster for the actor-director duo.

1) Thalapathy Vijay's stardom

Thalapathy Vijay is touted as the second biggest superstar after Rajinikanth in the Tamil film industry as far Box Office is concerned. In fact, 8 out of his last 10 films—Kaavalan, Velayudham, Nanban, Thuppakki, Thalaivaa, Jilla, Kaththi, and Theri - turned out to be huge hits at the Box Office. Even his recent release, Bairavaa, though opened to average reviews went on to cross Rs. 100 crore at the Box Office. And with Mersal, the Tamil superstar is teaming up with Atlee, the director of his all-time grosser Theri, the film is sure to break and set many Box Office records.

2) Atlee - The hit director

Atlee has so far directed two films Raja Rani and Theri and both of them turned out to be huge blockbusters at the ticket windows. His debut film, Arya-Nayanthara starrer Raja Rani was a clean family entertainer while his second outing, Theri was a paisa-vasool mass entertainer. And going by the promos, Mersal looks like an action-family entertainer with equal dose of action and romance, which will only help to rake in extra crores to the makers.

3) K. Vijayendra Prasad - The Baahubali series and Bajrangi Bhaijaan writer's story

Another reason to watch out for Mersal will be the story penned by the legendary writer, K. Vijayendra Prasad. The SS Rajamouli’s father’s previous films, Baahubali series along with the Salman Khan blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan turned out to be all-time Indian blockbusters and the makers of Mersal will be hoping to recreate the same blockbuster success from the veteran writer.

4) AR Rahman's music

Thalapathy Vijay films are also known for its chartbuster music as well. And for Mersal, the Jilla actor teamed up with none other than the Oscar-winning composer, AR Rahman. The song Aalaporan Tamizhan has already become viral and the soulful BG score shown in the trailer has worked in favour of film to get a good pre-release buzz.

5) Three leading ladies and a strong villain

Mersal stars three female leads: Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal, and Nithya Menen. Interestingly, the film marks the third collaboration of Vijay with Samantha and Kajal Aggarwal. The Vedalam actor’s previous films with both the heroines, Thuppakki and Jilla (Kajal), and Kaththi and Theri (Samantha)—were blockbusters at the Box Office. Mersal also stars SJ Suryah as the main antagonist of the film. The talented actor was recently in news for his terrific portrayal of psychopathic serial killer in Mahesh Babu's recent release SPYder.

6) Thalapathy Vijay in triple roles

Last but least, the main reason to watch out for Mersal will be the triple roles donned by Thalapathy Vijay. The Tamil superstar will be seen in three different roles as a doctor, magician and a village leader and the story of the film is said to deal with corruption in India's medical industry. As per reports, Vijay also performed the actions and magic tricks in the film without using any body doubles.

Upon its teaser release, Mersal created history by becoming world's first film teaser to clock 1 million likes on YouTube.
