Christmas is one of the biggest release seasons for Malayalam film makers. In fact, the Christmas releases of 2015, Two Countries, Charlie and Adi Kapyare Kootamani proved to be blockbusters at the Box Office. The second all-time Malayalam blockbuster, Mohanlal starrer Drishyam, which had released in 2013 was also a Christmas release as well.
Malayalam cinema lovers were expecting four Christmas releases this season with Mohanlal - Meena starrer Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol, Prithviraj's Ezra, Sathyan Anthikad - Dulquer Salmaan's Jomonte Visheshangal and Jayasurya starrer Fukri, all four films were expected to hit the screens on 22 December, 2016, as Christmas releases.
Unfortunately, none of these films are releasing now as the films have been postponed following the dispute between the Film Producers Associations and Exhibitors association.
Reportedly, both the Theater Owners Association and Film Exhibitors Federation have demanded a 50-50 share in the theatrical collections of film. But both the Producers Association and Distributors Association disagreed on the same, stating that it would cause a huge loss for the film production banners.
The exhibitors and distributors recently had a meeting on Tuesday with the producers association members over the issue. However, both the parties failed to take a final decision and have decided to raise the issue to a special commission. The new meeting is planning to schedule on the coming weekend.
Meanwhile, all the Christmas releases are re-scheduled to hit the screens by December last week or by first week of January 2017.
