Eid 2016 saw the release of five major films at the Chennai Box Office, namely Tamil films Dhilluku Dhuddu, Adra Machan Visilu, Bollywood film Sultan, Malayalam film Kasaba and the English animation film The Secret Life Of Pets.

While all the films enjoyed a 4-5 day weekend, the Santhanam-starrer Dhilluku Dhuddu and the Salman Khan-starrer Sultan managed to leave the other films in the dust.

1) Dhilluku Dhuddu

The Rambala directorial set the Chennai Box Office on fire this weekend, with more than 90% occupancy throughout the weekend. During the 4-day weekend, the Santhanam-Shanaya film has minted Rs 1.38 crore in Chennai to become the highest opening weekend film for Santhanam in a lead role.

The hit, low-budget horror-comedy has emerged the third biggest opener of 2016 after Vijay's Theri and Suriya's 24.

2) Sultan

The Bollywood sports drama, which was screened in 12 theatres in Chennai, registered 80% collections through the opening weekend.

The Salman Khan-Anushka Sharma film minted a record breaking Rs 1.22 crore to become the highest Bollywood grosser of the year so far at the Chennai Box Office. The Ali Abbas Zafar-directorial has overpowered the Chennai lifetime collections of many Bollywood films, including Akshay Kumar's Airlift, Housefull 3, Shah Rukh Khan's Fan and Sonam Kapoor's Neerja within just five days of its release.

3) Jackson Durai

Jackson Durai, the Tamil horror-comedy continued its dream run even in its second weekend at the Chennai Box Office. The film, which stars father-son duo Sathyaraj and Sibiraj in the lead, collected a Rs 1.42 crore at the Box Office to become the highest Sibiraj grosser in the state.

Upon its release, Jackson Durai was met with mixed reviews from critics. But the film eventually turned out to be a Box Office success.

4) Appa

After an impressive first week, Appa managed to rake in average collections on its second weekend. The low-budget film has been written, produced and directed by Samuthirakani, who also stars in the lead role. At the end of its 10-day theatrical run, Appa has collected Rs 65 lakh at the Box Office - turning out to be a profitable venture for the actor-turned-director.

5) Adra Machan Visilu

The last Eid release of the week, Shiva Arun Balaji's Adra Machan Visilu, has opened to an average collection at the Box Office. On its 4-day opening weekend, the film collected Rs 8 lakh at the Chennai Box Office.
