Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the "Lal Bahadur Shastri Smriti Bhavan Sangrahalay" at Ramnagar on Thursday, the ancestral place of the former prime minister.

The chief minister also unveiled statues of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and his wife Lalita Shastri.

"Shastriji was an inspiration for the whole nation and a true leader. He lived in simplicity and faced hardships in his life, his life is an inspiration for millions of poor children," Adityanath said.

He said a fund will be set up for the upkeep of the museum.

Adityanath also said that the truth behind his sudden death must come out as the people of the country want to know.

The former prime minister's son Anil Shastri, a former member of Parliament, said he will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a probe into the death of his father.
