Shocking! Man allegedly rapes and impregnate minor girl, villagers set him free with Rs 2.5 lakh fine; case registered under POCSO Act

In a shocking incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped by a man in Telangana and impregnated her. After the shameful incident came into light, the group of elders of village awarded punishment to the accused by the self-appointed judges. The elders fined him with Rs 2.50 lakh for the family of the victim and set him free by banishing him from the village.

The victim, who is a 17-year-old girl used to help her mother who works as a farm labourer. The accused, Venkataiah, is the owner of the fields where they worked.


The matter pertains to Mahbubnagar district of Telangana. Taking immediate action on the matter, police have arrested four members of out the six who mediated between the accused and the girl's family. Police say the arrested people even asked the girl's family to remain silent about the assault.

The shocking incident came into limelight on August 1. When the mother of the victim noticed the physical changes in the body of her then she came to know about the physical assault and her being pregnant.

She then took her for a medical examination, following which the pregnancy was discovered. Speaking to news agency PTI, inspector M Krishnaiah said the four "elders" and the accused have been arrested and were presented before a local court, which has sent them to judicial custody.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the India Penal Code, including Section 376 (rape), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
