Pradyuman murder case: 16-year-old accused will be treated as an adult, says the Juvenile Justice Board

In a shocking incident that happened, a 7-year-old student was murdered at the Ryan International School in Gurugram. A 16-year-old and student of class 11th was accused and arrested for the killing of the child.

In a recent development, the Juvenile Justice Board, on 20 December, had ordered that the accused student will be treated as an adult and leniency of any kind will not be given to the student.

The JJB also transferred the case to the District and Sessions Court and the hearing will begin from 22 December.

The Pradyuman murder case has proven to be one of the most historic case as this is for the first time that a juvenile will be treated as an adult in a murder case. This decision by the Court will surely bring another turning point in the case.

According to the reports, the family lawyer of Pradyuman, Sushil Tekriwal, had also said that there will be no leniency shown to the accused.

 

 

After the verdict of Juvenile Justice Board, Pradyuman's father Varun Thakur also welcomed the decision and during an interview given to ANI he said, "I thank the judiciary for the decision. We always knew that the journey is long but we will go till the end to get justice for my child and all other children who might be vulnerable." 

 

 

 

As per reports, there was an intense argument had took place among the CBI counsel, Thakur's lawyer as well as the defence lawyer for three hours. Eventually, the bail plea of teenager was rejected by the Juvenile Justice Board on the basis of reports on 15 December.

The three-member team of CBI tried to make the case with full proof against the detained 11th class student by taking the fingerprints of the accused. Currently, the accused has been lodged at Faridabad's Children Remand Home.


The social background report of detained student state that the accused boy was aggressive in nature and had even planned to poison the water tank of the Ryan International School earlier.

Therefore, the Juvenile Justice Board noted that the accused was enough mature to recognise the aftermath of his actions.

The seven-year-old Pradyuman was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit inside the school, sparking a public outcry following which the Gurugram Police arrested bus conductor Ashok, accusing him of killing the seven-year-old student.

But the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is now probing the matter, gave him a clean chit and held a class 11 student responsible for the murder.
