Pakistan violates ceasefire, 1 civilian killed, 2 BSF jawans injured

Two BSF jawans were injured and a civilian was killed in another ceasefire violation by Pakistani rangers in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district on 15 July.

  • According to media reports, the Rangers opened fire on a BSF constable guarding a border outpost along the International Border in Akhnoor sector.
  • As BSF troops tried to evacuate the injured jawan in a vehicle, they were heavily fired by Pakistani Rangers.
  • The BSF troops retaliated, resulting in exchange of fire which was still going on when last reports came in. The injured jawan has been hospitalised.
  • This is the second case of ceasefire violation since 9 July in which a BSF jawans was killed in firing by Pakistani troops on the Line of Control in Baramulla sector of North Kashmir.

  • On 14 July, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, "Army will give a "befitting" reply to Pakistan in case of violation of ceasefire".
