At least eight sustained injures as a under-construction metro pillar collapsed at Sardari Khera area of Alambadh in Lucknow on 17 April.

Rescue operations are underway as more people are feared stuck under the debris. The injured have been rushed to Lokbandhu Hospital for treatment.

The collapse reportedly occurred when the metal base of the under-construction pillar was separated from main frame. However, an official statement is being awaited.

The incident comes just weeks after the collapse of a flyover in the poll-bound West Bengal that killed at least 27 people.

Lucknow Metro is one of the most ambitious projects under Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav. The state is scheduled to go to Assembly polls next year.
