Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's health condition really critical over last 24 hours, says AIIMS

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's health condition has worsened over last 24 hours, said AIIMS on Wednesday late evening. The official statement released by the AIIMS hospital sad that the veteran leader's condition is really critical and has been shifted t0 a ventilator.

The 93-year-old veteran BJP leader was admitted to the AIIMS of 11 June following kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection and low urine output. As Atal Bihari Vajpayee's health got worse, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Textile Minister, Smriti Irani made a visit on Wednesday to the hospital to inquire about the health of the veteran leader.


 

Atal Ji is a diabetic patient and had only one kidney functional. After the stroke that hit him in the year 2009, his cognitive abilities have also weakened. Later, he also developed dementia.

On August 11, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Amit Shah also went to AIIMS to visit and inquire about the health of the 93-year-old leader. Vajpayee has been bedridden since 2009 and his condition is said to critical. He has been suffering from lower respiratory tract infection and kidney- related issues.

Atal Bihari Ji was the first head of government from mon-Congress party to serve a full five-year term as a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Vajpayee was elected to Lok Sabha from Lucknow in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Mr Bihari is a Padma Vibhushan awardee. He is also a recipient of India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, which was conferred on him in 2015.
