The day an Uttar Pradesh court asked the police to file an FIR against the family of Dadri lynching victim Mohammad Akhlaq for cow slaughter, the lawyer representing Akhlaq's family said that he would file FIRs against three more people allegedly involved in Akhlaq's murder.

"Three people - Sanjay Rana, Kancchi and Ompal - confessed during the proceedings that they were present at the spot," said Yusuf Saifi who is representing the Akhlaq family. "Kancchi and Ompal said they had caught hold of Akhlaq while Sanjay said he called the police. The police must now add their names in the FIR of murder and assault. We will move an application in the court soon in this regard."

He added: "Trying to prove that Akhlaq slaughtered a cow, the trio confessed to their role in the crime as well. Sanjay Rana is the father of an accused."

Eighteen people, including three minors, have been charged with assault and murder in the case. Two of the minors are out on bail, says the Hindustan Times.

Deputy superintendent of police Anurag Singh said: "We have not received any application to add any more names in the FIR. We will see what can be done if such an application is moved."
