BJP rebel Shatrughan Sinha takes a dig at this party and praised Congress President Rahul Gandhi for the minimum income guarantee scheme that gives up to Rs. 72,000 a year to 20 per cent of India's poorest families. Shatrughan Sinha called Rahul Gandhi a "master of the situation" and its scheme a ‘masterstroke’.

"It's a masterstroke by the 'master of the situation', @RahulGandhi - declaring #MinimumIncomeGuarantee scheme. It has rattled our people so much that some of our prominent people had to rush for a press conference, calling the whole declaration/ announcement "chhal kapat (sic)," he tweeted.

Sinha also attacks its own party over 2014 poll promises. “Would like to know from our learned friends/leadership - that when you announced various 'jumlaas'....15 Lacs to every individual, farmers' loan waivers & subsidies, more than 2 crore jobs for the youth every year, etc. etc..Was all this fair?” BJP MP from Patna Sahib said.

The Congress latest scheme, a poll promise was massively criticised by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley calling it chhal-kapat (deceit) and bluff. "Congress has historically believed in political transactions in the name of removing poverty," he said.

Shatrughan Sinha, BJP’s MP from Patna Sahib didn't figure on the party’s list of candidates. The party is fielding Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad instead.
