Antique dagger gifted to Nehru stolen from memorial museum

An antique four-inch dagger that had been gifted to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has been stolen from the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in New Delhi. Police officials confirmed that the glass box, in which the dagger was kept, was found broken on 26 April after which a case of theft was registered on 27 April.

A thorough search of the museum at Teen Murti Bhawan in New Delhi was conducted and CCTV footage was examined.

During investigation it emerged that the casket was outside the range of any of the CCTV cameras installed in the premises. Police suspect the hand of an insider in the theft, the official said.

Several persons, mostly staff and security officials at the museum, have been questioned in connection with the matter.
