Now drones are here to keep an eye on you. As well as watch out for you, of course! Keeping in mind the increasing traffic and rising incidents of accidents on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Maharashtra government has decided to use drones to track down violators of traffic rules and monitor the traffic.

According to the police, the greatest numbers of accidents along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway occur on weekends.

On a trial basis, drones have been used to keep a watch on the highway on Saturdays and Sundays. According to reports, the initiative helped fine 20 drivers for lane-cutting, on the weekend of 27-28 August.

"We conducted the demonstration on Saturday and Sunday, between noon and 4 pm and used two drones in the ghat section (between the Lonavala exit and the Khalapur toll plaza) to monitor traffic on both sides," Amol Tambe, Superintendent of Police (Highways), Pune region was quoted by The Hindu.

Till date, around 14,500 accidents have been reported resulting in 1,400 casualties on the 94 km Pune Expressway stretch.
