To celebrate or not to celebrate, that was never the question. Though we're pretty sure William Shakespeare would have been pretty unhappy that so many seem excited about his 400th death anniversary. But celebrate we must for this is the man who gave literature lovers, countless actors, minimally talented screenplay writers A LOT to be thankful for. He left behind a legacy of some of the world's best plays, verses and general quotable quotes to make everybody's lives that much easier.
The actor he inspires for who does not want to play a Hamlet or an Othello? The literature lover he sends into overdrive, for how can anyone resist the joy that are his tragi-comedies, his melodramatic dramas, his intense romances? And the marginally talented screenplay writers to those clever enough to adapt, he inspires. Outlandish story-lines with wit acting as plot devices, with murder, intrigue, deception, and guile ready to give the tale a twist - The Bard gave a little to everyone.
It is not surprising, therefore, that his death anniversary would prompt a barrage of verses, just as his life did. Twitter, as always, does not disappoint:
