No Love Charger for Kiku Sharda? Twitter intolerant of the actor's arrest

Since its inception, Comedy Nights With Kapil has been churning out marginally funny, fairly misogynistic, and largely below the belt humour. From fat-shaming to gender stereotyping, the show thrives on banality. So it's rather odd, and frankly scary that the mimicry of Dera Sacha Sauda guru, Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh 'Insaan', has sent a man to jail.

Kiku Sharda, who plays Palak on the comedy show, is hardly the type from whom you'd expect offence in a show which has a perpetually horny Dadiji. But he has, inciting even violence from the Baba's followers.

In a skit last month, Kiku mimicked Ram Rahim, wearing the blingy clothes the self-styled god-man usually dons. This 'crime' lead to the actor being given 14 days of judicial custody. First, what's with the late reaction? Second, where has the 'insaaniyat', gone godmen-dudes? And last, why the selective hate?

Who hasn't made fun of Messenger of God? The film's storyline, Ram Rahim's gravity-defying stunts, his sparkly clothes, and the shady songs, what's not to joke about? You're free to make whatever films you choose to, just as we're free to rip it apart.

Kiku Sharda tweeted out an apology, saying he was 'following the script, and didn't need to offend'. As a comedian, all of his jokes aim to offend someone or the other, for entertainment. Whoever heard of compliments being funny?

Twitter, right now cannot even... with the arrest of the actor and for once, social media is making complete sense.
