Cannes 2016 round up: Did Aishwarya Rai steal the show from Sonam Kapoor & Mallika Sherawat?
The 2016 edition of the Cannes film festival is drawing to a close. And fashion police world over have done their bit to analyse and over-analyse fashion choices of the celebrities who have walked the red carpet this year.
Indian beauties were out in full swing at this year's festival, with the likes of Richa Chadda, Avika Gor, Amy Jackson and Sonal Singh taking over the French Riviera.
However, the runway run remained primarily between the three Cannes regulars - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat. Here's a quick roundup of their sartorial choices at this year's edition of the coveted film festival.
Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor registered her presence at the Cannes 2016 red carpet in a delicate Ralph and Russo gown. While she was trolled for sporting a never-ending detailed gown, Bollywood's fashionista managed to pull it off with absolute ease.
Her second outfit of the festival was a futuristic sari. For both events, Sonam chose to keep her styling simple - opting for the classical hairstyles and jewelry. Was it really subdued? Or did it come across as subdued because Sonam is known for her over-the-top looks?
Sonam wore another Ralph and Russo saree-inspired gown to the amfAR gala, but the outfit seemed to be a repeat of the previous one - albeit one with a different color and styling.
However, kudos to the actress for giving it a desi touch and styling the powder blue gown with traditional gold ruby jhumkis.
Mallika Sherawat
The actress, who promoted her film Time Raiders at the international film festival this year started off quite well, and to everyone's surprise, didn't go OTT with her looks. Wearing a Georges Hobeika gown on her first red carpet appearance, Mallika sure cut a pretty picture. But not for long.
Her second appearance came as quite a shocker. The colour and the halter-neck detailing of the outfit worked against her. And the floral detailing on the gown did nothing to help.
For her last red carpet appearance, Mallika picked a Georges Hobeika creation - one that was elegant but lacked a sheer panel. The actual gown had the same white material of the outfit running till the collarbones. Had Mallika decided to alter with the gown, she would have fared tremendously well.
Also, looking at all her appearances, you can't resist but wonder what is up with her hair styling. Wavy curls seem to be her go-to look. Someone ought to tell her it doesn't go with everything.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
The repetition of nude colour, first with an Ali Younis Couture gown and then with an Elie Saab one, surely struck the wrong chord but those purple/lavender lips did all the talking for her.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's appearance at Cannes 2016 may not have featured high on the fashion stakes but the actress definitely made an impression at the red carpet.
After all, who but Aishwarya can cut a pretty picture in blush pink Rami Kadi gown, while getting the world to talk about those lavender lips?
