Want to pursue an MBBS from China or Russia? Here's your guide to deadlines, fees, other details

Want to study medicine abroad? China and Russia are the top two destinations for higher studies in medicine.

However, this requires meticulous planning. Aspirants should carefully analyse the available options, the application deadlines and fee details.

Keeping these factors in mind, Catch has listed the details of 14 Chinese and Russian varsities where Indian students can pursue their MBBS.

Please note that the costs specified below only cover the application and tuition fees for MBBS.

Students may have to undergo a preparatory program (up to one year) to help the prospective students meet the admission requirement on language (Chinese or Russian). The preparatory programmes have separate fees.

Aspirants must also remember to factor in other costs - like accommodation, study materials, traveling, transportation, insurance premium and meals.

Colleges offering MBBS in China

1. Peking University

The Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC) offers two different kinds of undergraduate study programs to foreign students: Clinical Medicine and Stomatology.

Course duration: 6 years

Application Fee: RMB 800 (Rs 8000 aprox)

Tuition Fee: RMB 45,000 (Rs 4,60,00 aprox) per year

Application deadline: Applications are welcomed between December to February every year.

2. Fudan University

The main medical schools in Fudan are: Basic Medical School, Clinical Medical School, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, Institute of Biomedical Science, Institute of Brain Science, Institute of Radioactive Medicine and Department of Laboratory Animal Science, and 11 affiliated hospitals.

Course duration: 6 years

Application Deadline: March, 2017

Application Fee: RMB 810 (Rs 8,200 aprox)

Tuition: RMB 75,000 Per Year (Subject to change) (Rs 7,70,000 aprox)

3. Shanghai Jiao Tong University

The Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has eight colleges - including the Basic Medical College and Clinical Medical College - seven affiliated general hospitals and 15 teaching hospitals. The University offers two seven-year programs (master degrees), nine undergraduate programs, 48 postgraduate specialties, 56 doctoral specialties and four post-doctoral research positions. Course duration: 5 years

Application deadline: March - April 2017

Registration Fee: RMB 410 (Rs 4,200 approx)

Tuition Fee: RMB 29,000 per year (Rs 3,00,000 aprox)

4. Zhejiang University

ZU offers a full-fledged residential MBBS programme. The details of the programme are:

Course duration: 6 years

Application Deadline: May, 2017.

Tuition fees: RMB 29, 800 per year (Rs 3,00,000 approx)

Registration timeline: late August or early September

5. Nanjing University

Nanjing has the following schools: The School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Stomatology, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, School of Health Policy & Management, School of International Education, School of Foreign Languages, School of Continuing Education, Graduate School, Kangda College, The First School of Clinical Medicine, The Second School of Clinical Medicine, The Third School of Clinical Medicine and The Fourth School of Clinical Medicine.

Details for undergraduate course - Basic Medical science

Course duration: 6 years

Application deadline: Apply from 1 December of the year before registration to 30 June of the year of registration. If the varsity has already enrolled 100 students before June of the year of registration, the admission work will be finished earlier and a detailed deadline will be announced on the official website.

Registration Fee: RMB 500 (Rs 5,000 approx)

Tuition Fee: RMB 34,000 per year (Rs 3,50,000 approx)

6. Sun Yat-sen University

The university's medical school has 119 clinical undergraduates in full English classes.

Details of the general medicine programme:

Course duration: 6 years

Application Deadline: May, 2016

Application Fee: US$ 150 (Rs 10,000 approx)

Tuition: RMB 48,000 per year (Rs 5,00,000 approx)

7. Wuhan University

The university's Faculty of Medical Science has the following schools: School of Basic Medical Science, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, First School of Clinical Medicine (Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University), Second School of Clinical Medicine (Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan Univeristy), School of Stomatology (Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University) and Medical Research Institute.

Application Deadline: 5 August, 2016

8. Nankai University

The Nankai MBBS programme is ranked 14th overall in China and in the world top 363 (QS world University Rankings 2013-2014).

Application Deadline: 30 June, 2016

Course duration: 6 years

Application Fee: RMB 1000 (Rs 10,000 approx)

Tuition Fee: RMB 64,000 per year (Rs 6,55,000 approx)

Colleges offering MBBS in Russia

1. Lomonosov Moscow State University

The Faculty of Fundamental Medicine in Russia offers an MBBS program. In the first three years of program, students receive training in the natural sciences and are taught clinical disciples in the next three years.

Course duration: 6 years

Application Deadline: July, 2016

Tuition Fee: RUB 87,000 (Rs 1,15,710 approx)


2. Volgograd State Medical University

The university offers various undergraduate courses in General Medicine, Dentistry, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Medical Biochemistry, Social Work and Clinical Psychology.

Course Duration: 5/6 years

Tuition Fees: US$ 6,150 (Rs 4,00,000 approx)


3. Kursk State Medical University

The university offers UG courses in general medicine, pharmacy, stomatology, biotechnology, nursing, social work, clinical psychology, economy and management in public health, preventive medicine and pediatrics.

4. Kazan State Medical University

The varsity has various faculties: Faculty of General Medicine, Pediatric Faculty, Dental Faculty, Pharmaceutical Faculty, Faculty of Preventive Medicine and Faculty of Social Work and Higher Nursing Studies. Details for Faculty of General Medicine:

5. Tver State Medical Academy

Tver has various medical faculties including Faculty of General Medicine, Faculty of Stomatology (Dentistry), Faculty of Internationl Medical Education and Faculty of Pediatrics. Here are the details for general medicine:

Course duration: 6 years

Application deadline: There's no official deadline; please contact college administration

Tuition fee: US$ 6000 per year (Rs 4,00,000 approx)+ sum of $1700 (Rs 99,000 approx) including visa charges. (Without ticket)


6. IM First Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy

The varsity has faculties encompassing 150 chairs which implement training in 14 specialties. It is one of the oldest and largest medical higher educational institution in the Russian Federation.

The academy has undergraduate specialist programs in General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Doctor for general hygiene and epidemiology, Medical biochemistry, Biochemist and Medical biophysics
