The Supreme Court, on 3 May, stood by its earlier decision to conduct the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2016-17. The second phase of the exam will now be held on 24 July, 2016.
Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Union of India (UOI) and the Medical Council of India (MCI) assured the Supreme Court of their preparedness to conduct the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for the academic year 2016-17.
But then, the centre took a U-turn and informed the SC that there could be difficulties in conducting the exam across the country for admissions to current academic year.
A bench comprising Justices Anil R Dave, Shiva Kirti Singh and AK Goel separately dealt with the various pleas raised by state and private stakeholders.
