Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, CBSE has taken a major decision for its next session 2021-22 board exams. The board has recently decided to conduct the board examinations in two terms instead of conducting the board exam at the end of the year.

It means the new academic session will be bifurcated into two terms- Term 1 and Term 2 for Classes 10th and 12th.

This move was taken by the board due to the ongoing situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic which forced the cancellation of board exams this year and some subjects exams last year.

According to the official order by Joseph Emmanuel, Director (Academic), CBSE, the term one exam will be held in November-December, 2021 while the second term exams will be conducted in March-April, 2022, the report added.

Detailed Information About CBSE Plan For Board Exam 2021-22:

CBSE Term I Board Exam:

CBSE will conduct the Term 1 exams in November-December 2021. It will comprise Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) which will be covering only the first half of the rationalized syllabus. The exam will be of 90-minute duration (one hour thirty minutes). The question papers and the marking schemes will be sent to the schools. The exams will be held under the supervision of external examiners and observers. The results will be sent to the board.

CBSE Term II Board Exam:

Board will conduct the term II exam in March-April 2022 at exam centres decided by the Board. The term 2 exams will be two-hour-long papers with questions in different formats.

In case, the situation would not conducive for descriptive examinations then Term II exams will also be held in the form of 90-minute MCQ papers just like Term I.

Board will prepare the results on the basis of both the term-end exams.

In the wake of COVID-19, the board has created a basked of four options for conducting the board exams:

1. If both the term-end exams can be held at the exam centres then the board will distribute the theory marks between both exams equally.

2. If schools remain close at the time of Term I exams then students will have to write the exams either online or offline from their homes, but the Term II exam can be held at the centres. In this case, the weightage of the Term 1 exam for the final score would be reduced and the weightage of Term II exams will be increased for declaration of the final result.

3. If Term I exams are held in schools but Term II exams can’t be held then students can appear for the second term exams via online or offline. The result would be prepared on the basis of student’s performance in the Term I MCQ-based exam and internal assessments. The weightage of marks of the Term I examination will be increased to provide year-end results.

4. In case, no term exams can be held at schools or centres then the results will be calculated on the basis of the internal assessments and board exam practicals, and theory marks of Term 1 and Term 2 exams attempt by the students from their home “subject to the moderation or other measures to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment”.

In a circular to heads of all CBSE-affiliated schools, Director (Academics) Joseph Emmanuel mentioned that the experience of the past year “necessitated deliberations over alternative ways to look at the learning objectives as well as the conduct of the Board Examinations for the academic session 2021-22 in case the situation remains unfeasible”.
