Battle for #DUSU: Election in the times of social media

As the Delhi University election for office bearers of Delhi University's Student's Union (DUSU) draws near, social media is turning into a battle ground. The elections, being held on 11 September, will have last year's winners BJP's Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) fighting it out with Congress' National Student's Union of India (NSUI). And joining the party is the AAP debutante, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS).

With four seats up for grabs and three students' groups in the foray, clearly this battle for DUSU is one to watch out for. This electon has seen pamphlets, fliers, rallies and in AAP's case even a rock concert on 1 September with Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in attendance; because AAP is nothing if not with the times.

Venues may shift but the good old fight for visibility remains the same. Today's battle is taking place on Twitter with ABVP and NSUI hashtagging it out, each trying to outdo the other.

Currently, the top two Twitter trends in Delhi are #NSUIthebest and #ABVPRocks. While #NSUI4DU, #ABVPRocks, #ABVP are also in use, it is interesting that after the much-publicised rock concert at the beginning of this month, we haven't seen much from the AAP camp on social media.

Here's a glimpse into the Twitter catfight:
