With Great Indian Sale & Big Billion Days, Amazon, Flipkart get set for festive season

October marks the beginning of the sale season, which goes on till December for Indian retailers - whether online or offline. This period is crucial for them as they account for around 40% of the annual consumer durables and electronics sales in the country.

E-commerce companies are launching offers to boost sale during this period. Amazon's Great Indian Festival Sale began at Friday midnight and under the festive deal they have listed Blockbuster deals and Festive Bazaar. Flipkart will begin their Big Billion Sale for which they reportedly hired over 10,000 temporary staff to ramp up the delivery and logistics service to meet the festive demand.

"With the festive season coming in, we are confident that Big Billion Days (sale) will be bigger and better than before this year. In addition to having the new capability of alternate delivery model, we are looking at hiring more than 10,000 temporary staff in logistics and last mile across the country," Flipkart Chief Administrative Officer Nitin Seth told mediapersons.

This will be done to meet the massive demand that Flipkart expects during the festive season, he added.

Flipkart's rival Snapdeal also expects creation of 10,000 temporary jobs at the company between 15 September and 15 November, with the positions mostly being in logistics to ensure smooth deliveries.

Flipkart-owned Myntra will also take part in the Big Billion sale rush. Snapdeal's Unbox Diwali sale will begin shortly as well.

However, consumers should not expect a steep discount this time around as these companies are struggling with funding crunch, devaluation and stricter government norms.
