Why is witty Shah Rukh Khan at a loss for words over Salman Khan's rape remark?

Bollywood actor Salman Khan found himself in the eye of storm immediately after he made a statement where he compared his grueling MMA training sessions for Sultan, which according to him was similar to the pain a rape victim goes through.

While some Bollywood celebrities have defended Salman, others have condemned his remarks. Shah Rukh Khan, who was last seen on the big screen in Fan, chose to skirt around the issue when asked about it recently.

King Khan, who is renowned for his wit, said that he was not "intelligent enough" to comment on Salman's remarks. He said:

"In the last few years I have come to realise that I have made so many inappropriate comments myself. I don't think I am someone to sit in judgement for anybody else's comment. To be really honest, it is not about taking sides. I myself speak such a lot (inappropriately), who am I to judge him on this? Personally speaking, I don't think I am anyone to comment on this. I am so inappropriate myself. I have said some really wrong things also."

Shah Rukh's quirky take on things and his effortless charm have made him the darling of the press. Not only does he inspire many fans with his rags-to-riches story, but his social media posts are also testament to the fact that no other Bollywood star tells it like King Khan. Take a look:

It is discomfiting to see a star as outspoken and articulate as Khan refuse to comment on the issue. Especially because many were expecting the Raees star to have a strong stance on the controversy. Shah Rukh could have defended Salman over the outrage. He could have just as easily criticised him. But it is disappointing to see him do neither.

"Why do we expect celebrities to be perfect?" Irrfan Khan had once asked. While his words ring true, it doesn't do much to ease the pain of watching Shah Rukh play it this safe.
