Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are Bollywood's highest tax payers
The year 2015 was a great one for two Bollywood giants, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. While two Salman Khan films, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo raked in over Rs 500 crore rupees globally, Akshay Kumar too helmed a few successful films including Singh is Bliing, Brothers and Baby.
The two superstars are also the highest individual advance tax payers in Bollywood for the year 2015-16.
Coming in at third place is Ranbir Kapoor. Despite his films not doing as well as expected, the actor reportedly charges hefty amounts for his roles.
Bollywood's top 5 tax payers:
- Salman Khan: Rs 20 crore
- Akshay Kumar: Rs 16 crore
- Ranbir Kapoor: Rs 15 crore
- Shah Rukh Khan: Rs 14 crore
- Amitabh Bachchan: Rs 8.75 crore
Advance tax is paid by individuals if the total tax liability on their estimated income is likely to exceed Rs 10,000 during the financial year. This tax liability is calculated after considering tax deducted at source.
