Actor R Madhavan, whose film Saala Khadoos is looking at an end-of-January release, feels that films don't really promote any particular sport but they do manage to generate a short term craze for the same.

Saala Khadoos revolves around a boxer who wants to win gold for India.

The year 2015 saw the introduction of Mixed Martial Arts in Bollywood with Akshay Kumar's irst film under Dharma Productions, Brothers. After Brothers, Bollywood is coming up with numerous films based on boxing, wrestling, MMA like Saala Khadoos, Sultan, Dangal.

In an interview with Catch, R Madhavan said, "It is a mere coincidence that all films based on wrestling/ boxing/ MMA are releasing in the same period. I started work on Saala Khadoos three years ago and at that time such films were not being made. Having said that, sport based films have a history of doing well at the Box-Office, be it Chak De India or Paan Singh Tomar or Mary Kom."

While promoting Brothers, Akshay Kumar had hoped that the film promotes Mixed Martial Arts in India. Sadly, that did not happen. Madhavan explained,

"After Maine Pyar Kiya, everybody took up skating; however the craze for skating was dead in a few months. I don't think films will promote these sports in India unless the public supports it. If a sport is unlikely to get public support, why would a good family send their son/daughter to it?"

Eid 2016 is set to witness Salman Khan essay the character of three time Haryana State Wrestling Champion, Sultan Ali Khan. Visualising Salman Khan as wrestler, Madhavan said,

"Salman Khan is learning to wrestle since many months. Do you think an actor like Salman Khan needs to undergo so much training? He already has a physique like a wrestler. But he is doing it because he wants to make it authentic."
