The trailer of filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey's latest Bollywood offering, Udta Punjab, has grabbed quite a few eyeballs. Including ours. In this article we spoke about how choosing a theme considered more suitable for documentaries helps the the makers earn instant brownie points.
And director Abhishek Chaubey has no qualms admitting that Udta Punjab has been challenging for him. Chaubey said, while talking about the central theme of drugs in the film, said:
"This (substance abuse) is a serious issue. We knew that discussions are going on it. Punjab is an important state and there is drug abuse happening there but there was no discussion on the national level."
The director was present at the trailer launch event of the film, along with the starcast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh. Talking about the intention behind the film, he said:
"Through this film, our primary motive was to bring this issue on national level. I am glad Ekta Kapoor (producer) and Phantom (production house) came on board and helped in creating such a huge star cast."
Udta Punjab is a crime drama, which throws light on drug menace in Punjab, its nexus and how it is trafficked. The film is scheduled to release on 17 June.
