Taapsee Pannu blasts for high electricity bill

On Sunday Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu took to her Twitter handle to express her shock over her high electricity bill of Rs 36,000 during the lockdown. She complained to Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) that there has been an insane rise in her electricity bill for the month of June. In the series of tweets she wrote, “3 months of lockdown and I wonder what appliance(s) I have newly used or bought in the apartment only last month to have such an insane rise in my electricity bill @Adani_Elec_Mum. What kind of POWER are you charging us for.”

Not just this she also took a jibe at AEML and wrote, “And this one is for an apartment where no one stays n it’s only visited once in a week for cleaning purpose @Adani_Elec_Mum I am now worried if someone is actually using the apartment without our knowledge and you have helped us uncover the reality”

Well, within an hour of her complain AEML spokesperson responded on the concern raised by her and said that they verified the meter reading and found that it is correct. Further, they clarified by saying, “We have re-started physical meter reading which was temporarily halted since March because of Covid-19. Bills were generated on the lower side, being an average of preceding three months – that is, December, January and February, which are winter months. Actual consumption in the months of April, May and June is comparatively higher due to seasonal impact (summer) and increased usage (the advent of Lockdown/WFH).

Also, MSEDCL and Tata Power officials said there was nothing wrong with billing as it was the recovery of dues for the past three summer months.

Meanwhile, Taapsee is not the only one who faced this issue there are many other consumers including Pulkit Samrat and Vir Das. They both too took to their Twitter handle to express their shock over the high electricity bill.
