Chetana Thirthahalli, a noted writer and filmmaker from Bengaluru, allegedly received rape and acid attack threats on Facebook after she published articles questioning Hindu customs.

Reportedly, the writer had also participated in a rally supporting beef consumption. According to an Indiatimes report, Thirthahalli had been receiving threats for the last few months. She took the matter up with the police on 25 October.

The complaint was filed in Hanumantha Nagar police station against two Facebook accounts registered under the names Jagrutha Bharatha and Madhusudhan Gowda.

Thirthahalli told TOI that she felt unsafe after MM Kalburgi's murder and decided to file a complaint. The case has been registered under IPC section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
