Starving residents of Syrian city of Madaya break down after receiving first aid

The first aid shipment from abroad has reached the besieged Syrian city of Madaya which brought tears to the starving residents of the city.

Around 65 trucks loaded with aid supplies entered Madaya and two other besieged towns of Foua and Kefraya in which four trucks carried food and blankets and rest were loaded with medicine and other supplies, reported the CNN.

Shocking images of starving residents of the rebel held city under siege by Syrian regime forces and their allies since July have drawn international attention.

The situation was so dire that a doctor had nothing to give his patients except sugar or salt water.

The convoy came from the U.N. World Food Programme, International Red Cross and Syrian Arab Red Crescent which had been positioned at the outskirts of the city. It was set to deliver enough aid to sustain 40,000 people for a month.

Although, Madaya is less than 50 kilometers from the capital city of Damascus, the cost of food has crippled the city.
