PTI, PML-Q to club together to fight Pak Senate elections

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have announced that they will join hands and contest the upcoming Senate elections together.

A high-level meeting consisting of senior leaders from both the parties was held on Sunday. PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that both the parties agreed to support each other keeping in mind the political situation in the country.

Both the parties constituted an eight-member committee to ensure close cooperation the Senate elections, the Express Tribune reported.

Qureshi said that the committee would be comprised of PTI's Shafqat Mehmood, Aleem Khan, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and Sibtain Khan and PML-Q's Tariq Cheema, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Azeem Lakhvi and Raja Basharat.

PML-Q senior leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi claimed that PTI's Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and PML-Q's Kamal Ali Agha would win the Senate elections with comfortable margins.

Agha, who is the PML-Q's candidate from Punjab for Senate, already submitted his nomination papers to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ECP on Friday announced the schedule of Senate elections, which will be held on March 3.

In a notification, the ECP has called upon the members of the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces to elect seven Senate members from general seats, two members from the seats, exclusively reserved for women and two members for the seats reserved for technocrats including Ulema from each of province.
