Shots were heard at the Los Angeles International Airport late on 28 August. According to the media reports, the airport terminals were evacuated.

One person has been detained in connection with the incident. A search operation is currently underway.

"US Media reports of an active shooter at Los Angeles International Airport," tweeted news agency ANI.

"Police searching LAX after reports. All precautions being taken to ensure safety of public. Remain calm. Thank you for your cooperation," tweeted LA Airport PD.

According to the airport's Twitter handle, sections of the terminal had been closed for passengers at the moment.

"Upper/Departures & Lower/Arrivals levels of Central Terminal Area (CTA) closed," said the tweet.

The Los Angeles Airport Police Department did not immediately confirm whether there was a shooter. It, however, said that a search was ongoing, reports the Washington Times.

According to reports, people were seen running from multiple terminals at the airport and multiple calls were coming in for terminals 1, 5, and 7.

According to LA County Scanner, a freelance media covering news for Los Angeles, shooting is taking place at terminal 8.
