A car bomb explosion in a Shia neighbourhood in north Baghdad's Sadr City on 11 May has reportedly claimed the lives of at least 20 people. However, local media reports claim that the death toll has crossed 70.
Over 40 people have been reported injured in the attack.
According to various media reports, the bomb went off near a bakery and a falafel restaurant situated in a crowded outdoor market.
While no outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack, Islamic State militants battling government troops in the country's north and west have regularly been attacking Shi'ite civilian areas in the capital.
According to a report in the BBC, the explosion has also damaged nearby buildings and other vehicles.
