BRICS Summit: PM Modi holds extensive discussion with Russian President Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 4 September met Russian President Vladimir Putin and held wide-ranging discussions on the bilateral cooperation, and other regional and global issues.
MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted, "Furthering a special & privileged strategic partnership. PM @narendramodi meets President Putin on the sidelines of #BRICS2017 Summit".

The two leaders met in Xiamen on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.

The two leaders are believed to have discussed ways to further ramp up bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas of defence, security and trade.

Prime Minister Modi is also expected to meet leaders of other countries like, Brazil, South Africa and Egypt.

The Prime Minister is also likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on 5 September, wherein trade and terror are likely to be on the agenda.

The joint declaration adopted by BRICS countries also condemned Pakistan-based terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammed.
