Don't act like lords: Supreme Court to BCCI on defying Lodha Panel recommendations

The Supreme Court, on 28 September, slammed the BCCI for reportedly not complying with the Lodha Panel recommendations on its reforms' directives in the cricketing body.

Chief Justice of India TS Thakur appointed the Lodha Panel to ensure that the BCCI reforms itself after adhering to the court orders, and warned the Board of adverse directions in case of continued defiance.

CJI TS Thakur said, "BCCI thinks it is law unto itself. We know how to get our orders implemented. BCCI thinks it is the lord. You (BCCI) better fall in line or we will make you fall in line. The conduct of the BCCI is in poor taste."

Pakistan isolated: After India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan pull out of SAARC Summit

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on 27 September announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will skip the SAARC summit in Islamabad due to strained relations with Pakistan.

"In the prevailing circumstances, the Government of India is unable to participate in the proposed Summit in Islamabad," said the MEA in a statement.

Along with India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan have also pulled out of the SAARC summit in Islamabad in November, saying the environment is not conducive for the meet. The decision was conveyed by Bangladesh and Bhutan on Tuesday to the SAARC Chair Nepal, sources said.

"The growing interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by one country has created an environment which is not conducive to the successful hosting of the 19th SAARC Summit in Islamabad in November 2016," the communication by Bangladesh said.

SC to hear Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy's plea for extension of his interim parole

The Supreme Court on 28 September will hear Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy's plea for extension of his interim parole.

The apex court earlier on September 23 ordered that Roy should be taken into custody till 3 October, but in a reprieve stayed his arrest till 30 September.

A two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur passed the order after hearing an application filed by Kapil Sibal, the lawyer appearing for Roy. Sibal sought a reprieve for Roy on the ground that he would follow all rules and regulations.

Israel's Former President Shimon Peres dies at 93

Former Israeli president and elder statesman Shimon Peres died in Tel Aviv on 28 September at 93 year of age, the official government Israel News Agency reported.

According to an international news agency, Peres was hospitalised after he had a stroke two weeks ago. According to reports he had made some progress before a sudden deterioration in his condition on 27 September.

Details of when the funeral will take place are unknown yet.
