UEFA Euro 2016: France's Antoine Griezmann awarded player of the tournament

France and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has been named the UEFA EURO 2016 Player of the Tournament by UEFA's technical observers after finishing with six goals and two assists, UEFA reported.

UEFA chief technical officer Ioan Lupesco led the panel which selected Griezmann. UEFA quoted the panel as saying, "Antoine Griezmann was a threat in every game he played. He works hard for his team and possesses technique, vision and quality finishing. The technical observers were in unanimous agreement that he was the tournament's outstanding player."

Even though France couldn't lift the title, Antoine Griezmann played a pivotal role in France's run in the tournament. Griezmann scored the two important goals against Germany in the semifinals and even struck twice in a comeback victory against Republic of Ireland.

The 25-year-old finished the competition with two assists and six goals.

According to a report in UEFA, Griezmann was selected by UEFA's 13-strong panel of technical observers, also including Sir Alex Ferguson, Alain Giresse, David Moyes, Packie Bonner, Mixu Paatelainen, Savo Milošević, Peter Rudbæk, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Schaaf, Jean-François Domergue, Ginés Meléndez and Jean-Paul Brigger.
