Jayalalithaa Jayaram(24 February 1948 - 5 December 2016) was an Indian actress and politician who served five terms as theChief Minister of Tamil Nadubetween 1991 and 2016. Since 1989, she was the general secretary of theAll India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK), aDravidian partywhose cadre revered her as theirAmma(mother) andPuratchi Thalaivi(revolutionary leader), Thanga Tharagai (Golden Maiden) among other honorifics.
