Dial landline, mobile numbers from WhatsApp, Skype soon

Soon, you will be able to call up landline and mobile phone numbers from popular internet apps like WhatsApp, Skype or Viber.

This may be possible following the clearance for inter-connect agreements between internet service providers (ISPs) and telecom operators by an inter-ministerial panel of the government on Monday, a leading daily reported.

Once confirmed, the move will result in cheaper voice call rates, subject to billing as per data usage. However, poor internet services in most parts of country could be a major hindrance.
