WhatsApp has finally launched desktop apps for Mac and Windows.

The apps, which can be download on the company website, are compatible with devices running Windows 8, Mac OS 10.9, and above.

With the recent launch, WhatsApp is now available across all platforms. The desktop apps for WhatsApp were released about 14 months after the company launched WhatsApp web.

The WhatsApp desktop app works in the same fashion as that of WhatsApp Web Client and will mirror conversations from and messages from mobile devices.

"Today [10 May] we're introducing a desktop app so you have a new way to stay in touch anytime and anywhere - whether on your phone or computer at home or work," the messaging platform said in a blog.

How to get started

Users are required to scan the QR code using the WhatsApp app on the smartphone. Look for WhatsApp web Settings menu under Settings.

Users only need to make sure that they are running the latest version of WhatsApp on Android, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry.
