Jio has been giving its competitors run for their money. The company has been surprisingly aggressive with its plans, particularly with its prepaid plans. The Jio effect has been reflecting in the pricing policies of other market players. Such has been Jio's magic that it has now become the trendsetter for other telecommunication operators.

Telecom operators have left no stone unturned in taking on the now market leader, Reliance Jio. To take on Jio's popular Rs 498 plan, Airtel has come up with its own Rs 499 postpaid plan that offers Unlimited calls, 40 GB of 3G/4G internet data valid for a period of 28 days.

The airtel package also provides unlimited local, STD, incoming roaming and outgoing roaming calls. Additionally, it also gives extra benefits like 1-year Amazon Prime subscription and access to Wynk music, Live TV and handset damage protection that is something, one cannot find elsewhere.

Major Indian telecommunication operators have been blaming Reliance Jio on the issues of revenue generation and profitability, they have also been blaming the rock-bottom tariffs being offered by the Reliance Jio that has made the telecom sector bleed.

However, last month, TRAI said it will impose financial disincentive of up to Rs 50 lakh per circle on the operators in case their service rates are found to be predatory in nature or for that matter found to be based with eliminating the competitors from the market, in their working.

TRAI has also made it clear that the service providers are to provide facilities to all of their subscribers in a non-discriminatory manner. The way Reliance Jio operated in its initial days was certainly predatory and almost lethal for other players in the market. Jio took the telecom sector with a blow when it first announced its completely free voice callings and dirt-cheap internet in the market.
