Ahead of the much-anticipated launch of its Prime content services in India, Amazon has entered into a partnership with Dharma productions, and the latter will provide access to local blockbuster titles.
Along with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which hits theatres next month, Dharma Productions will provide Amazon with exclusive online rights to titles such as Ok Jaanu, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, among others.
As a part of its Prime Videos initiative, Amazon has also tied up with other production giants like Vishesh Films, opening up a world of locally sourced movies that Amazon will make available for users. According to the deal with Vishesh films, Amazon will have access to its entire catalog of of about 50 movies.
"We are excited to have Dharma Productions' library and future slate of titles for the upcoming launch of Prime Video. We know our Prime members are going to love the broad selection of films and stories - everything from soulful romance to heartfelt and funny family stories - that Dharma does so well," Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head of Amazon Video India told Mashable.
While Amazon Prime services launched in India earlier this year, its Prime content services - that include Amazon Videos and Amazon Music - are yet to hit the stands. With streaming services such as Netflix and Hotstar already revolutionizing video consumption in the country, Amazon Videos will have to put up a formidable fight once it launches.
