Alert! Here's why Twitter is asking users 'keeping your account secure'

Twitter has made an appeal to more that 330 million users on its platform to change their Twitter account password. This advisory released after a bug was found in te micro blogging website platform. Though Twitter has fixed the Bug for precautionary measures and to stop any kind of misuse of user’s account password.

“We fixed the bug and have no indication of a breach or misuse by anyone, As a precaution, consider changing your password on all services where you’ve used this password.” Chief executive officer of Twitter wrote in a post. “We are very sorry this happened,” Twitter posted on its blog.


In an effort to explain its users the chief technology officer of Twitter, Parag Agrawal posted the complete details of problem occurred on his Twitter handle. He informed while any user sets password of his account, the technology of Twitter platform make it sure so that none other than account holder will be able to see it.

The bug affected the system and exposed the password of many twitter account holders. Twitter secure users password on its end by a system called bcrypt. So when any user creates his account or change password it replaces the password with random numbers leaving it unaccessible to internal persons.
But because of the bug, the password was stored in the internal log. Twitter spotted the problem to fix the bug and also deleted the stored passwords in the log.

 

To add extra protection in Twitter account users can activate login verification. For activating the feature, Go to setting and privacy > Account > Security. After this everytime, you will receive a unique password on the registered number to log in.
